# Manchester City: Fans hail unlikely hero Gundogan following Leicester win

**After Manchester City continued their winning streak in all competitions to [four games](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-city/scores-fixtures) following a composed [3-1 victory](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qePJ507j4xw) over high-flying Leicester, supporters have flocked to hail unlikely hero Ilkay Gundogan following the display – with the German’s spot kick integral to securing a vital win.**

The Sky Blues went 1-0 down early in the first half courtesy of a brilliant finish from [Premier League top scorer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/top-scorers) Jamie Vardy before former Foxes star Riyad Mahrez equalised for the hosts with a deflected effort.

From then on, City would show their metal in the pursuit of a lead – eventually getting a spot of luck when Raheem Sterling went down from a challenge in the area to gift Pep Guardiola’s side a deserved penalty.

Gundogan, 29, converted the spot-kick before Gabriel Jesus secured all three points later in the contest, feeding off Kevin De Bruyne’s brilliant cross for a tap in.

Even though De Bruyne’s[masterclass was a pivotal reason](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/man-city-vs-leicester-kevin-de-bruyne-guardiola-jesus-mahrez-vardy-gundogan-a9256611.html) for City’s victory, fans have heaped praise on [polarising figure](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/manchester-city/manchester-city-fans-slate-gundogan-over-shocking-liverpool-performance/) Gundogan for his contribution – here’s what they had to say.
