# Manchester City: Fans laud return of Aymeric Laporte to training

**After news account Man City Xtra [posted a photo](https://twitter.com/city_xtra/status/1211718658428411907?s=21) of Aymeric Laporte back in training following a devastating [knee injury](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/manchestercity/man-city-defender-aymeric-laporte-escapes-acl-injury-but-set-for-spell-on-sidelines-a4228731.html), these Sky Blues supporters have been ecstatic over the potentially imminent return of their best defender – with worries at the back[largely being the cause](https://www.forbes.com/sites/grahamruthven/2019/10/11/manchester-citys-defensive-woes-shouldnt-have-come-as-such-a-surprise/) of their side’s downfall this season.**

Pep Guardiola’s side take on Everton looking to start 2020 in style, hoping to halt Carlo Ancelotti’s 100% start as Toffees boss with a crucial home win.

City, so far this campaign, have had to improvise without the influence of Laporte – who formed a [stellar partnership](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/it-was-a-disastrous-decision-by-pep-guardiola-to-allow-vincent-kompany-to-walk-away-d6mp6pslk) with club legend Vincent Kompany last season during their domestic quadruple triumph.

In fact, this season, the Frenchman remains the highest interceptor of anyone in the squad this season with 2 per game (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/167/Show/England-Manchester-City)) despite his lack of game time for months and only John Stones wins more duels in the air on average over the same period.

The cracks have well and truly shown without the Frenchman, with the Eastlands outfit keeping just three league clean sheets in the [last three months](https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/11/Manchester-City/fixtures).

However, with Laporte seemingly back in training, City supporters now have reason to celebrate – here’s how they reacted on social media.
