# Manchester City: Fans laugh off reported Barcelona interest in Kevin De Bruyne

**A number of Manchester City fans have scoffed at reports from Spanish media claiming that Barcelona would like to sign Kevin De Bruyne.**

[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20200504/48939679311/de-bruyne-gusta-mucho-al-barca-pero-ahora-su-fichaje-se-ve-imposible.html) reported that the La Liga club view the 28-year-old as an exceptional player who they have been tracking, with [@City\_Chief](https://twitter.com/City_Chief/status/1257233246154362882) on Twitter stating that Barcelona “dream of” bringing him to Camp Nou. However, [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20200504/48939679311/de-bruyne-gusta-mucho-al-barca-pero-ahora-su-fichaje-se-ve-imposible.html) added that it seems an impossibility for the Spanish champions to sign De Bruyne this summer, given that their transfer budget and that of other European clubs is [likely to be heavily affected by the loss of income](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52371373) from no football taking place amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with Belgian media outlet [HLN](https://www.hln.be/sport/voetbal/rode-duivels/vertrekt-de-bruyne-als-city-niet-europees-mag-spelen-alles-bekijken-als-uitspraak-er-is-twee-jaar-zou-lang-zijn~a56ece3e/?referer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F) at the weekend, the playmaker hinted that two years without European football, a fate that awaits Manchester City unless they can [successfully appeal](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1264472/Man-City-Champions-League-appeal-coronavirus) against their [UEFA ban](https://www.forbes.com/sites/bobbymcmahon/2020/02/16/uefa-ban-manchester-city-for-2-years-separating-the-facts-from-fiction/), would be a long time – a statement which could cast doubt on his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.

De Bruyne has been a key creative presence in Pep Guardiola’s side, his [16 Premier League assists](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goal_assist) this season the [most of any player in the division](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goal_assist), and he has contributed [50 goals and 89 assists in his 206 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kevin-de-bruyne/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/88755/verein/281) for the club.

These Manchester City fans on Twitter gave short shrift to reports indicating Barcelona’s interest in the Belgian midfielder:
