# Manchester City: Fans moan about getting Shakhtar Donetsk again in Champions League draw

**Manchester City will come up against some familiar foes in the Champions League this season after the group stage draw was made yesterday.**

With the teams [being drawn in descending order of seeding](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2020/draws/round=2001140/), the Premier League champions [discovered their Pot 2 opponents first](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2020/draws/round=2001140/) and were drawn against Shakhtar Donetsk, as noted by Manchester City’s official Twitter channel [@ManCity](https://twitter.com/ManCity/status/1167114635411099648) during their live updates of the draw.

Pep Guardiola’s team were subsequently [joined in Group C by Dinamo Zagreb and Atalanta](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2020/draws/round=2001140/), the latter [making their first appearance in the group stage of the competition](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2616511.html?iv=true).

By contrast, Manchester City are becoming quite accustomed to facing [Ukrainian champions Shakhtar](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/shakhtar-donetsk/platzierungen/verein/660), having [met them in the Champions League group stage in each of the last two seasons](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/bilanzdetail/verein/281/wettbewerb_id//gegner_id/660/saison_id//heim_gast//datum_von/-/datum_bis/-/day/0/land_id/177).

In 2017/18, the Premier League side enjoyed a [2-0 win over Shakhtar at the Etihad Stadium](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41378842) before an [inconsequential 2-1 defeat in Ukraine at the end of the group stage](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42242185).

Last season, Guardiola’s men had two comprehensive victories against the Ukrainian side, [winning 3-0 away](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45907555) and then [romping to a 6-0 triumph at the Etihad](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/46087295).

Despite their good record against Shakhtar, these Manchester City fans on Twitter were not enthused about meeting the Ukrainian club for a third Champions League campaign in a row:
