# Manchester City: Fans rubbish Kalidou Koulibaly links amid defensive crisis

**With another January transfer window on the horizon, it’s that time of year where Manchester City are [once again linked with a move](https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/media-watch/2019/june/man-city-news-transfer-gossip-isco-maguire-ilay-elmkies) for Spanish playmaker [Isco](https://as.com/futbol/2019/10/21/primera/1571650350_948530.html), but now it looks like there could be another name about to be consistently tipped for a switch to the Etihad.**

Particularly during City’s newly-found defensive crisis, with first-team stars Ederson, Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko [out for the foreseeable future](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/sperrenundverletzungen/verein/281), the club have been [repeatedly linked with a move](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1175023/Man-City-Liverpool-Aymeric-Laporte-Kalidou-Koulibaly-Premier-League-title-race) for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Corriere dello Sport (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/guardiola-highlighted-strongest-defender-league-man-city-man-united-already/)) has been the latest source to link the centre-back to a move to Manchester – but these fans clearly don’t fancy Pep Guardiola adding him to the team.

The Senegalese international has been one of Europe’s top centre-backs in recent seasons and a top ball-playing defender, exhibiting a [91.2% pass success rate in the 2017/2018 season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/90880/History/Kalidou-Koulibaly) for Napoli, highlighting why he may be so sought after at Eastlands.

Regardless of the credibility of some rumours, City supporters seem to prefer a range of alternatives to the Napoli defender, making their views clear online.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter:

> I would say Koulibaly is the new Isco, but since the Isco rumors STILL haven’t died……

> No thanks, rather give Garcia a regular place

> No point pursuing someone like koulibaly as good as he is considering the stubbornness of de laurenitis. I’d prefer lan option like Ruben Dias who would be a brilliant replacement for otamendi and allow us to have Garcia as fourth choice

> I prefer otamendi if im honest with you.

> Good player but i believe him being hailed as one of the best in the world shows the lack of genuine class alternatives.
