# Manchester City: Fans unimpressed with John Stones

**Plenty of Manchester City fans were discussing John Stones on Twitter after a post from [@City\_Chief](https://twitter.com/City_Chief/status/1257739338235830273) on the social media platform, with many believing that the 25-year-old needs to do better.**

The England defender, rated at £32.4m on [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/profil/spieler/186590), came to the club from Everton in a [£47.5m deal](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/10528801/john-stones-joins-manchester-city-in-475m-deal) in 2016. He has gone on to make [129 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/186590/verein/281) for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring [five goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/186590/verein/281) in that time, and has won [eight trophies](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/erfolge/spieler/186590) at the club, including [two Premier League titles](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/erfolge/spieler/186590).

Unfortunately, Stones has suffered [several injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/verletzungen/spieler/186590) in his time at the Etihad Stadium, with various fitness issues ruling him out of [14 games this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-stones/verletzungen/spieler/186590). His first campaign at Manchester City saw him subjected to plentiful criticism (as per [Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en/news/i-am-going-in-the-right-direction-man-city-defender-stones/ivk6kzku4rzr1spebey8w8fr2)) and, last year, Guardiola felt compelled to publicly insist that he had no intentions of selling the defender, despite transfer reports to the contrary (via [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/04/28/pep-guardiola-long-manchester-john-stones-will/)).

The 25-year-old centre-back still has a lot to do to win over these City fans on Twitter, with one placing him “in the Otamendi category”, a reference to his Argentine team-mate who has been [slammed by several pundits](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7470481/Gary-Neville-Jamie-Carragher-criticise-Man-Citys-John-Stones-Nicolas-Otamendi.html) over some performances this season:

> It’s been 4 years , he needs to leave city. It will be better for the club as well as for stones

> He’s in the Otamendi category, needs a world class center half next to him to cover his mistakes, better when Kompany or Laporte was next to him.

> He will never be good enough for City in my opinion.

> Making this statement for 4 years, it’s time city replaces him

> After 2 years with pep and no improvement, we can honestly say that’s not going to happen.

> His problem is not being able to focus for 90 mins + added time.\
> For most of the games he can be composed and stylish but then flaps at the unexpected.
