# Manchester City: Jack Grealish does not expect to be at Etihad next season

**[Manchester City](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-city-news/)‘s record signing Jack Grealish does not expect to be at the club next season, according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/man-city-grealish-sources/).**

### **The Lowdown: Record signing**

In the summer of 2021, it was announced that City had signed the Aston Villa captain for [£100m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/12372309/jack-grealish-manchester-city-sign-aston-villa-captain-for-100m), the biggest transfer dee in British football history.

However, since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, the England international has [faced criticism](https://the4thofficial.net/2022/05/manchester-citys-2021-22-signings-rated-grealish-fails-to-justify-100m-price-tag/) for a number of his performances, which were seen to be below-par for the club’s record signing.

In his first season with the Sky Blues, the winger made [26 top-flight appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-grealish/leistungsdaten/spieler/203460/plus/0?saison=2021) for Pep Guardiola, contributing just three goals and three assists for the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) champions.

### **The Latest: Grealish could be going**

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/man-city-grealish-sources/), Grealish has told friends that he does not expect to be at Man City next season.

The 27-year-old apparently believes that Guardiola’s tactical setup is failing to extract the best of his individual qualities, and he fears that he made a big mistake joining a team with such strict passing routines.

It is said that the former Villa playmaker has complained that he does not get enough of the ball at City.

### **The Verdict: Underrated at Man City**

When looking at Grealish’s underlying statistics, it could be argued that his tenure with the Premier League champions has been severely underrated.

As per [FBRef](https://fbref.com/en/players/b0b4fd3e/Jack-Grealish), compared with positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, the England international ranks in the top 1% for progressive carries, the top 2% for touches in the attacking penalty area and the top 3% for pass completion.

Hailed by Guardiola for his [‘incredible’](https://www.goal.com/en/news/grealish-incredible-debut-guardiola-man-city/3uvwznga50ve1f2pqsg5y72s6) debut at City, Grealish has joined a team of superstars – a stark contrast to life at Villa Park – so things were always going to be different at the Etihad.

However, he is definitely contributing positively to the Sky Blues, so the [harsh criticism](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjo5v-6nqH6AhU1SEEAHdApDGUQFnoECBQQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.manchestereveningnews.co.uk%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2Fman-city-news-grealish-debruyne-25047332&usg=AOvVaw09ln5gdLdo1rk9I481IfB1) that he often receives can be unfair.
