# Manchester City: Jose Mourinho-Mark Hughes double standard angers fans

**Back in 2009, when Mark Hughes was replaced by Roberto Mancini at the Manchester City helm, with the Italian going on to guide the Sky Blues to their first-ever Premier League title, some supporters have drawn parallels between the Welshman’s sacking and Jose Mourinho’s Spurs appointment.**

In Hughes’ last game for the club, a [4-3 win over Sunderland](https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8414079.stm) at the Etihad, the ex-Man United man stood on the touchline [knowing it was his last game managing City](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2009/dec/19/mark-hughes-roberto-mancini-manchester-city), with Mancini’s appointment soon after drawing plenty of [criticism](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/roberto-mancini-replaces-mark-hughes-at-manchester-city-despite-player-revolt-3xcrqwhdktb) from the media at the time due to the way it was handled.

However, pointing out a potential double-standard, City supporters have compared that fiasco with Mourinho’s [appointment at Spurs](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50483023) – with the Portuguese seemingly jumping in Mauricio Pochettino’s grave merely hours after it was announced he’d been given his marching orders.

The only difference, according to supporters, is one sacking getting stick from sections of the media while Pochettino’s seemingly hasn’t.

Here’s how they explained the double-standard on Twitter:

> Henry Winter should have been thrown out of the Etihad for the way he behaved in Mancini’s 1st presser
