Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has offered an interesting Phil Foden verdict after the club hero's stunning 6-3 derby day performance.

The Lowdown: Manchester is blue...

The Premier League champions made it three derby wins in a row on Sunday afternoon as they put arch rivals Manchester United to the sword at Eastlands.

Perhaps their most scintillating performance of the 2022/2023 campaign so far, City hit United for six with both summer signing Erling Haaland and Foden putting in absolutely phenomenal performances.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva also impressed for Guardiola's side but it was City's two electric young superstars who made all the headlines.

Both Haaland and Foden grabbed hat-tricks on a very memorable afternoon for the Sky Blues, but according to Guardiola, the latter player can actually get even better.

The Latest: Guardiola makes interesting Foden claim...

Ahead of City's clash against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League this evening, Guardiola has claimed Foden 'has to improve' both in and out of possession.

The Spaniard said (via Joe Bray and City Xtra):

"@PhilFoden can play five positions... In the middle, pay a bit more attention. Some aspects, his unbelievable instincts. In the middle, the sides is easier. With the ball, especially without, he has to improve. It's normal. He'll do it, no doubt."

The Verdict: Scary...

The fact Guardiola thinks the 22-year-old can still get even better is truly scary.

His scintillating performance against United at the weekend was just one of many this campaign with WhoScored highlighting how he is City's fourth-best performer on average.

Over his eight league starts, Foden has bagged a brilliant five goals and two assists whilst also ranking in Guardiola's top five for attempts and key passes made per 90.

Indeed, as explained by pundit Micah Richards, the England international is a 'superstar' at the Etihad Stadium and it will be very interesting to see if his ceiling can get even higher.
