Manchester City: Sky Blues planning to offer Bernardo Silva a new contract

Manchester City: Sky Blues planning to offer Bernardo Silva a new contract - Manchester City News

Manchester City are reportedly planning to offer Bernardo Silva a new contract to remain at the Etihad Stadium.

The Lowdown: Previous interest in Bernardo

The summer transfer window saw the midfielder heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, only for the Portugal international to remain with the Premier League champions.

This could be why the Citizens are keen to offer Silva a new deal and put to bed any other concerns which may pop up about his future.

The Latest: A new deal on the horizon?

According to a recent report from Football Insider, City are preparing to offer the 28-year-old a new five-year deal which would see an increase on his current wage of £150k-per-week.

Having recently secured new deals for the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Rodri and Phil Foden, it seems that their next priority is ensuring that Silva pledges his long-term future to the club.

The Verdict: No-brainer for City

In 269 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, the midfielder has scored 50 goals, provided 56 assists and won numerous domestic trophies.

This season has seen Silva feature in all 12 of City’s Premier League games, making him one of just four outfield players to do so. In that time, the Portuguese maestro has scored, two goals, delivered five assists and posted the second-highest rate of goal-creating actions per 90 minutes at the Etihad (0.91).

Having been praised in the past by journalist Henry Winter for his “phenomenal” performances, Silva has also been on the end of much acclaim from his manager, who said about him last October: “He is in incredibly good form alongside Rodri and both played so well the last four or five games. He is at the level of the second season when we won with 98 points and he was out of this world.

“He is at the same level now. He is so intuitive; he always gives us the extra ball that we need. Today he scored a goal, that’s important for him. The performance of Bernardo has been extraordinary again.”

Taking all that into account, it would appear a no-brainer for City to secure a new long-term deal for Silva, given how important he is for Guardiola’s side.
