Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo is being monitored by AC Milan ahead of a potential move, according to reports in the last 24 hours.

The Lowdown: Out of favour

The Portugal international first arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Juventus back in 2019 and instantly took the Premier League by storm, but has recently fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

The Sky Blues boss has been choosing the likes of Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake in his position, despite the latter naturally being a centre-back, which has also seen Kyle Walker out of action a lot more than he would have been hoping for.

The 28-year-old has been named on the bench for the last two top-flight games against Wolves and Tottenham, and his situation has now prompted one potential suitor in particular to keep tabs.

The Latest: Cancelo set for an exit?

According to The Sun, AC Milan are ‘monitoring’ Cancelo alongside ‘several’ other clubs after noticing that his opportunities have suddenly been brought to a halt.

The City star only signed a contract extension last year, so with his deal not set to expire until 2027, it’s reported that it would take a ‘huge offer’ to convince the club to let him go.

The Verdict: Keep hold of him

Cancelo might not be number one in the manager’s pecking order right now, but having been dubbed ‘genius’ by journalist Josh Bunting, it’s important that City do everything they can to keep hold of him.

The Nike-sponsored athlete has racked up 22 assists and nine goals during his time with the champions and currently ranks in the 99th percentile for most dribbles completed per 90 minutes by full-backs in the top five European leagues.

The Barreiro native has also helped his side secure five trophies and has been an integral member of the squad throughout that time, so it would be daft to cash in on a player who clearly still has so much more to offer.
