Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Pep Guardiola confirmed Man City star Sergio Aguero missed two days of training this week and could be a doubt for the Sky Blues’ trip to Southampton this afternoon – coming after the manager also shed light on the absence of Eric Garcia.
Aguero, who only just recently came back from a knee injury, could miss City’s clash at St. Mary’s after Guardiola confirmed trouble – this time in another area.
Should Man City sign a new striker in January?
Yes, needs to be done
No, we're strong enough
Aguero a potential doubt for Southampton
The Argentine has barely featured for City since coming off with a meniscus tear during a 5-0 romp at home to Burnley last season, working to get back to full fitness ever since.
He made a brief cameo during the Sky Blues’ 1-1 home draw to West Brom in mid-week, but afterwards he missed two days of training at the Etihad Campus with a fresh problem.
The club legend is now a doubt for Southampton, with defender Garcia not playing as he continues his recovery.
Guardiola, whilst explaining he did return to training on Friday, isn’t sure whether Aguero will feature or how many minutes he’ll be able to play if he does.
Transfer Tavern take
This could come as a fresh blow given their current lack of potency up front, with the attacker’s absence arguably felt this season as City continue to lack that cutting edge going forward which separated them from the rest of the Premier League.
Whether or not he is named on the team sheet and features against the Saints remains to be seen, but it is unlikely Guardiola will start him after this fresh reaction.
