# Manchester City: Pep Guardiola confirmation of zero January spending has fans fuming

**After succumbing to a [2-2 draw away to Newcastle United](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50526605) at the weekend, supporters have reacted angrily to Pep Guardiola’s revelation that they’re not looking to sign anyone in January, as revealed by the Spaniard in his pre-match press conference earlier today.**

Manchester City’s draw now leaves them [11 points behind title rivals Liverpool](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) with a match at Turf Moor looking to provide an equally tough test for the Champions – but regardless of their extensive injury list – Guardiola does not appear to feel the need to invest in the upcoming transfer window.

Indeed, his comments were captured by [Andy Hampson and relayed by City Xtra online](https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1201629901247459328).

The Sky Blues have had to make do without departed club legend Vincent Kompany and the injured Aymeric Laporte, their [two regular centre-halves last season](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/premier-league-table-man-city-17249241), so far this campaign – and their frailty defensively has been a huge part of their failure to match these past two years of English dominance.

As a result, supporters have questioned the decision on Twitter with confusion as to why spending isn’t a priority – here’s what they had to say.

> Has he lost the plot? We clearly need a new centre back smh
