# Manchester City team news: Claudio Bravo in as Pep Guardiola travels to Liverpool

**Manchester City have an injury nightmare on their hands ahead of Sunday’s crucial game against Liverpool, with [goalkeeper Ederson](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50278816) adding to the growing list of absentees including [Aymeric Laporte, David Silva and Oleksandr Zinchenko](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-city-injury-news-ederson-17216717).**

Pep Guardiola will have to work wonders to come away with three points, with City not having won at Anfield since 2003 when [Nicolas Anelka scored three minutes into injury time](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=13&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjN-4C30djlAhWNN8AKHcOPBrMQFjAMegQIARAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Ffootball%2F2003%2Fmay%2F04%2Fmatch.sport3&usg=AOvVaw0vuLRY3t5PQMRwAwXYpHTJ) to secure the three points.

How will Man City line-up against league leaders Liverpool?

[Sergio Aguero has not started every game this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-aguero/leistungsdaten/spieler/26399) (including City’s previous trip to Merseyside), and with Gabriel Jesus arguably possessing much better movement, exemplified by [his assist for Sterling on Wednesday](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjgiYSA0tjlAhUGAcAKHbjJCikQwqsBMAF6BAgIEAc&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D0glWn8CskHg&usg=AOvVaw2p0yQbQAiSLDG6XmFsKiBL), he may be capable of asking more questions of Virgil van Dijk than Man City’s number 10.

Bernardo Silva hasn’t hit the heights of last season yet, with [MEN](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-city-bernardo-silva-news-17045245) describing him as having “gone from being the first name on the team sheet to third-choice in two positions”, but his work-rate could mean he’ll be given a start on Sunday.

Against Liverpool, he broke the record for [the most distance covered in a single Premier League game](https://www.sportbible.com/football/news-silva-ran-a-ridiculous-137km-in-manchester-citys-win-over-liverpool-20190104) in the 2018/19 season, and Raheem Sterling, who should start on the other side, is ready to give Trent Alexander-Arnold a runaround, having already scored [16 goals in all competitions](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjgtaiQ09jlAhXGEcAKHbHvBvkQFjAAegQIAhAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whoscored.com%2FPlayers%2F97692%2FShow%2FRaheem-Sterling&usg=AOvVaw0zuhm_qrnXZ77-jndEhgkS) this season for City.

Alexander-Arnold has faced criticism for his defending on [Sky Sports](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjT-puZ09jlAhVDlFwKHQaGAKYQwqsBMAF6BAgJEAk&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D_ExHEl7B87Y&usg=AOvVaw2fsskqUxXdJvZ7enoDY-E8) recently and the attacking midfield duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan will hope they can play the wingers in to increase their combined tally of 12 assists ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/leistungsdaten/verein/281/reldata/%262019/plus/1))

Rodri was predicted to return from his [hamstring injury after the upcoming international break](https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/first-team-news/2019/october/man-city-aston-villa-pep-guardiola-injury-team-news), but after he was [spotted in light training](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-city-training-champions-league-17205281) this week, [Liverpool fans are suspicious](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/11/06/liverpool-fans-believe-rodri-will-be-fit-for-man-city-clash/) he might be fit for Anfield, and we wouldn’t bet against Guardiola throwing in a curveball at the last minute – though Riyad Mahrez could be primed for an appearance if Bernardo Silva is required to drop deeper in a midfield reshuffle.

Defensively, City are struggling, and it seems that Fernandinho, who has [started City’s last six league games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernandinho/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/26267/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) at centre-back, will partner John Stones there.

Benjamin Mendy played the full 90 minutes in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and he hasn’t played two full games in a week since returning from injury in September, so right-back Joao Cancelo could drift over as he has done [once already this season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/128967/MatchStatistics/Jo%C3%A3o-Cancelo).

Claudio Bravo will have to step up after Ederson’s worst fears were [confirmed](https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/first-team-news/2019/november/liverpool-v-city-injuries-and-team-news) following his mid-game withdrawal in the Champions League, but if his 5.06 [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/14199/Show/Claudio-Bravo) rating from the Atalanta game is anything to go by, he could struggle to keep Liverpool out.
