At Manchester City and under Pep Guardiola, nobody is safe from rotation with even Ederson being rested last season with Scott Carson making his debut for the club in their 4-3 win against Newcastle United, and that may be a factor behind Bernardo Silva wanting to leave, according to former defender Steve Howey.
Silva has reportedly told Manchester City that he would like to leave the club this summer with Barcelona his preferred destination, which shows despite their recent failings and financial difficulties that the Catalan giants are still a huge attraction for any player.
Should Bernardo Silva leave Man City?
The Portuguese winger is someone that fits perfectly into Guardiola’s style of play with his close control and ability to interchange positions during the match, but despite being handed 24 starts in the Premier League he could only manage two goals and four assists which may tempt City to sell the wantaway winger.
Barcelona failed to win La Liga last season as they finished third behind both Madrid clubs while also crashing out of the Champions League in the Round of 16, however they are still a massive club that players want to play for as Howey explained exclusively to Transfer Tavern:
“He could be in a period of time where he wants to be playing a lot more regular football and let’s be honest, if you go to Barcelona, as a player that’s the peak and everybody thinks that if you’re at Barcelona or Real Madrid, then you’re a top, top player.”
Silva was signed from Monaco following their Ligue 1 title triumph and stunning run in the Champions League and despite never been a regular under Guardiola, like many players, but he has still managed to score 35 goals and register 44 assists during his time at the Etihad.
If they were to part ways with Silva then it could potentially free up some funds on the wage bill and a valuable spot in the squad for Jack Grealish who is reportedly a target for City.
