Manchester City are set to enter the race for Ben Chilwell, according to a report in The Telegraph on Sunday.
The Leicester left-back is also being targeted by Chelsea, with the Foxes reportedly valuing him at £85m, the price for which they sold Harry Maguire to Manchester United last summer, according to The Telegraph.
The story emerged just after RB Leipzig confirmed that they would not be seeking to sign Angelino permanently (Bild, via Manchester Evening News), meaning that the Spaniard is set to return to Manchester City and will give Pep Guardiola another option at left-back.
Chilwell has made 28 appearances for Leicester this season, contributing two goals and three assists from left-back (as per TransferMarkt). He has averaged 61.7 passes, 1.2 key passes, 1.6 successful tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game in 2019/20 (as per WhoScored).
Meanwhile, Angelino has averaged 1.2 tackles and 2.6 interceptions per game during his loan spell at RB Leipzig, winning two tackles in his team’s draw against Paderborn on Saturday along with contributing two key passes.
If the former is signed by Manchester City and the latter is kept by Pep Guardiola next season, the manager could be left with an overflow of left-back options as he already has Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Etihad Stadium.
Angelino’s imminent return from Leipzig, along with the possibility of Chilwell being a big-money acquisition, could leave Zinchenko fearing for his future at Manchester City if Guardiola feels he has an excess of left-back options.
The 31-cap Ukrainian could be saved, however, if the manager feels that Angelino is not up to the task or if the pursuit of the Leicester defender proves unsuccessful. Zinchenko also has the advantage of being able to play in midfield, something which plenty of the club’s supporters have championed in the past, although he has rarely been moved out of defence this season whenever he has played.

The impending return of the Premier League could be the spark that the 23-year-old needs to prove his importance to Guardiola, especially if significant progress is made towards signing Chilwell.
