Flocking to Twitter, a number of Manchester City fans have erupted at the news linking them with a move for Declan Rice.

According to a report by The Telegraph (as relayed by City Xtra), the Premier League champions are interested in the signing of the West Ham midfielder, who is said to be receiving further interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola looks set to address two positions in his squad this summer - left-back and central midfield. As a result, City have been linked with England international Rice, with the Sky Blues manager having previously described the 23-year-old as ‘an exceptional player’.

For comparison, the Irons midfielder's WhoScored ranking of 7.22 for the season is better than John Stones, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Ruben Dias and Ederson.

However, it is reported that West Ham value their vice-captain at £100m, which could seem an unlikely prospect for City, given that they spent that amount on club-record signing Jack Grealish from Aston Villa last summer.

Taking to Twitter, City Xtra shared the news, asking: ‘Where should the signing of a defensive midfielder rank among Man City’s priorities for the summer?’

Consequently, many fans took to the comments to share their thoughts, erupting at the rumours linking the club with Rice.

Here’s what some of them said:

"It is a priority. If Rodri gets injured, we don't have one. Left back to replace Mendy, CDM to replace Ferna and a striker. All need to be done this summer."
