Barcelona have joined Manchester City in the race for Espanyol striker Mateo Fernandez, as cited by @City_Xtra.

Initially reported by Alan Nixon last month, the Citizens were said to be plotting a move for the dual national [The Sun]. Born in Spain, his family hail from the United Kingdom and he could be tempted to switch to England in the near future [The Sun].

Joining Espanyol in 2020, he is known for his ability to convert in front of goal, physical strength and technical ability, which would suit Pep Guardiola's style of football [Euro Football Rumours].

Needing to replace record goalscorer Sergio Aguero after he completed his move to Barcelona [FC Barcelona], the Blues may view Fernandez as a long-term investment worth making.

However, news of the Catalan giants joining the race hasn’t gone down well with some of the City faithful. Taking to Twitter, loads of City fans are fuming over these latest developments.
