# Manchester United in advanced Diogo Dalot talks

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are in advanced talks over a new deal for [Diogo Dalot](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/diogo-dalot/), according to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21634386/man-utd-dalot-contract-barcelona-real-madrid-transfer/).**

### The Lowdown: Current contract

Dalot, [hailed](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cristiano-ronaldo-manchester-united-dalot-25535346) as ‘smart’ and ‘intelligent’ by former United striker Cristiano Ronaldo, has featured heavily under [Erik ten Hag](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/erik-ten-hag/) this season, making his [30th](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-dalot/leistungsdaten/spieler/357147) appearance of the season against Liverpool on Sunday.

The 23-year-old’s current contract is currently set to expire in [2024](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-dalot/profil/spieler/357147) after Old Trafford chiefs triggered a one-year extension prior to the New Year.

### The Latest: New deal

[The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21634386/man-utd-dalot-contract-barcelona-real-madrid-transfer/) provided an update regarding Dalot and United in the last 48 hours, claiming that talks over a new long-term deal are at an advanced stage.

The report adds that United are wary of interest from both Barcelona and Real Madrid and want to secure him to a new deal after impressing this season.

### The Verdict: Wise move

Dalot has gone from strength to strength under Ten Hag and is currently valued at a career-high €32m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-dalot/profil/spieler/357147).

He appears to be first choice ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and has been the club’s fourth-best performer in the Premier League, as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/32/Show/England-Manchester-United).

Dalot has made more interceptions than any United player and also ranks highly for tackles and key passes made per 90, so a new long-term deal would be a wise move by Old Trafford chiefs and it looks as if it is gathering pace.
