# Manchester United: Alan Hutton reacts to Denzel Dumfries interest

**Former Scotland international Alan Hutton has been reacting to [Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/)’s reported interest in Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, as per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/man-united-backed-to-sign-aaron-wan-bissaka-replacement-after-33m-report-pundit/).**

### The Lowdown: Dumfries linked with Man United

The Red Devils have made [three signings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/transfers/verein/985) so far this summer, one of which has been Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia.

Dumfries, another Netherlands international, appears to be of interest to Erik ten Hag, alongside long-term target Frenkie de Jong, with [reports](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Calciomercato/Inter/23-07-2022/inter-corsie-d-emergenza-gosens-ricaricare-quanto-piace-dumfries-premier-4401547364788_preview.shtml?reason=unauthenticated&origin=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gazzetta.it%2FCalcio%2FCalciomercato%2FInter%2F23-07-2022%2Finter-corsie-d-emergenza-gosens-ricaricare-quanto-piace-dumfries-premier-4401547364788.shtml) from Italy over the last 10 days claiming that United are ready to “make an offer” for the 26-year-old if they can offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/12616652/aaron-wan-bissaka-manchester-united-open-to-offers-for-defender-in-summer-transfer-window) stated back in May that the Englishman isn’t in Ten Hag’s plans, although the Red Devils are yet to move him on with the new season just days away.

### The Latest: Hutton’s comments

Hutton, who contributes as a pundit for [Sky Sports](https://icdb.tv/stats/3725/Alan-Hutton), was talking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/man-united-backed-to-sign-aaron-wan-bissaka-replacement-after-33m-report-pundit/) regarding a possible move for Dumfries. He waxed lyrical about the Dutchman, who he believes would be a ‘good match’ at Old Trafford.

The ex-Tottenham defender said of the 26-year-old:

> “He’s definitely attacking, he loves to get forward.
>
> “We saw it in the Euros with Holland, he’s an outlet, and that is the way Ten Hag wants to play.
>
> “He’s been brought up in that mould of the Dutch football, the passing, the movement, the working hard. He’s had a lot of experience for someone of a young age.
>
> “Of course I think he could come in and hit the ground running. That’s the way he wants to play football so it would be a good match.”

### The Verdict: Smart signing?

Dumfries has plenty of experience at the highest level for both club and country and, as Hutton mentioned, has an attacking side to his game, with [32](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denzel-dumfries/leistungsdaten/spieler/321528) goals and [40](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denzel-dumfries/leistungsdaten/spieler/321528) assists to his name.

He would be able to provide an option as a [right-back or right midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denzel-dumfries/leistungsdaten/spieler/321528) and could be a shrewd signing, perhaps a necessary one if Wan-Bissaka is eventually moved on.

Ten Hag would be left with Diogo Dalot as United’s [only senior](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/kader/verein/985) right-back in that instance, so bringing in Dumfries could be another smart defensive acquisition after Malacia and Lisandro Martinez.
