# “Very high level” Barcelona starlet tells agent he wants to join Manchester United

Manchester United’s season has begun in disastrous fashion, with Michael Carrick’s side suffering a 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City despite the club’s significant investment in the squad.

The summer additions of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans were expected to give United’s midfield greater quality, but the opening-day performance offered little encouragement.

[With the Red Devils still looking to strengthen](https://manunews.com/blog/man-utd-transfer-news-myles-lewis-skelly-2/), they may now have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of a young Barcelona star.

## **Balde Wants United Move**

Manchester United have reportedly been given encouragement in their efforts to sign Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, with the Spain international said to have told his agent that he wants a move to Old Trafford.

[According to *Sport*](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/united-tantea-balde-via-barata-133584542), United have been exploring the possibility of bringing the 22-year-old to Manchester and are examining whether a relatively inexpensive deal can be negotiated with Barcelona.

Balde remains an important member of Barcelona’s squad, but his situation has reportedly prompted United to investigate whether there is an opportunity to secure his services before the transfer window closes.

The defender has established himself at Camp Nou since breaking into the first team and offers the pace and attacking threat United are looking for on the left side of their defence.

Barcelona’s asking price and willingness to part with the youngster remain key factors, but Balde’s reported desire to explore a move could give United something to work with as they continue their recruitment drive.

The Spain international has previously been [described as “very high level” by former Barca boss Xavi](https://barcauniversal.com/xavi-lauds-barcelona-starlet-after-athletic-club-win-biggest-revelation-of-this-season/), underlining the talent United could potentially be looking to add to their squad.
