# Manchester United: Angel Gomes set to leave Old Trafford

**Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Angel Gomes to leave Old Trafford.**

Gomes, who has been linked with a move to [Chelsea](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073), is out of contract this week. Solskjaer had hoped he would sign a new deal but his contract is set to expire on Tuesday, and the Red Devils have been unable to reach an agreement with his representatives, as they were “[underwhelmed](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073)” by the improved terms on offer.

The manager told a press conference today, as relayed by [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4124164/solskjaer-angel-gomes-likely-to-leave-manchester-united): “I’ve got no news, nothing, so it doesn’t look like \[he will stay\]. I’ve not heard from them last night or this morning. It seems like they haven’t managed to agree so the answer is probably short and yes \[he will leave\].”

Last month the Premier League revealed that clubs can offer extensions to players with contracts expiring [this month](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4094552/premier-league-confirms-players-can-extend-contracts-until-end-of-season). The Red Devils were only interested in offering Gomes [a long-term deal](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073) and their stance remains unchanged, amid interest from [Chelsea and Barcelona](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073).

[\[freshpress-poll id=”307012″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22307012%22])

Although [Barca](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-premier-league/story/4094549/lloris-15000-guard-dog-fifa-awards-postponed-man-united-calm-as-chelsea-barca-eye-gomes) were keen to sign Gomes, the La Liga giants had no plans of offering him first team football, which is understood to have disappointed the teenager. The 19-year-old, who has been compared to Brazilian legend [Ronaldinho](https://sport360.com/video/european/39445/video-young-manchester-united-star-angel-gomes-compared-nani-dazzling-dribbling) in the past, has only played in [eight games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angel-gomes/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/392770/plus/0/verein/985/trainer_id/7286) for Solskjaer so far and he will be available for free when his contract runs out at the end of June.

However, this will likely be a major blow for the Norwegian. Gomes, who turns 20 in August, is currently valued at £3m via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angel-gomes/profil/spieler/392770). The [England U20 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angel-gomes/profil/spieler/392770) has scored two goals in six appearances at that level and has the potential to become as good as Gerard Pique’s old teammate [Andres Iniesta](https://sports.yahoo.com/news/gomes-good-iniesta-says-ex-145203133.html), according to his former coach.

Even though he is largely unproven, Manchester United may regret letting the youngster leave in the future, as ended up happening with [Pique](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gerard-pique/profil/spieler/18944).
