# Manchester United edged out Barcelona to secure signing of striker

![Martial](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Martial-500x349.jpg)After a sensational transfer deadline day for the boozy Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern, it left a fair few of the punters in here scratching their heads a bit – poking fun at the United faithful after some questionable last minute bids!

One of these audacious bids that came off was the £36 million transfer that saw the Old Trafford outfit land young French teenager, Anthony Martial.

A player who has yet to prove himself in a major European league, and before Tuesday was unknown to most of the lads in this pub! With the fee having the potential to rise to £58 million with add-ons, many in the football world have been criticising Ed Woodward for this outrageous move!

However, today [the Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3220929/Manchester-United-claim-massive-Anthony-Martial-fee-beat-Barcelona-PSG-Chelsea-deal.html) are reporting news that the United fans are welcoming with open arms! They are saying that United paid such a high fee in order to stave off interest from Barcelona, as well as numerous other European super clubs!

**Does this make you feel better United fans? Or have you still over paid? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!**
