# Manchester United: Edinson Cavani money claim over Red Devils transfer has supporters grateful they missed out on striker

**Speaking to [La Cadena Ser via Utd Report](https://utdreport.co.uk/2020/02/05/edinson-cavanis-agent-claims-player-would-have-signed-for-manchester-united-if-it-were-for-money/), Edinson Cavani’s agent has stated that the striker would have signed for Manchester United if it was purely ‘[for the money](https://utdreport.co.uk/2020/02/05/edinson-cavanis-agent-claims-player-would-have-signed-for-manchester-united-if-it-were-for-money/)‘ – resulting in many Red Devils supporters being grateful over missing out on the Paris Saint-Germain star.**

Cavani, who has been out of favour for his current club this season having made just four Ligue 1 starts, was linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes to United in January to gain more playing time ([L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Transferts-edinson-cavani-psg-la-tentation-du-depart/1095898)). Despite scoring 198 goals and assisting 41 others over 294 appearances for the French champions ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/edinson-cavani/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/48280)), it appears a move away could be on the cards, but these United fans are glad they won’t be pursuing him following his agent’s reported comments.

Instead, the Red Devils opted to [sign](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11923137/odion-ighalo-manchester-united-sign-striker-on-loan) Shanghai Shenhua forward Odion Ighalo as a temporary replacement for the [injured](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-utd-take-special-measure-21441417) Marcus Rashford, even despite the Nigerian’s best season in the Premier League being unable to match Cavani’s form last campaign. The Uruguayan, according to[WhoScored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/24328/History/Edinson-Cavani), bagged 18 goals and five assists in 20 league starts – whereas it took Ighalo 37 matches to score 15 for Watford back in the [2015/2016 season.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/31376/History/Odion-Ighalo)

Regardless, Red Devils supporters are grateful to have missed out on a ‘[Sanchez 2.0](https://twitter.com/saraiyash/status/1225143528205975557?s=21)‘ according to one fan – find all of their best comments down below.

> Dodged a bullet right there. Clearly Sanchez 2.0, happy with Ighalo.

> Yeahhhh… I’ll stick with Ighalo and not this diet Falcao who isn’t even good enough for a farmer’s league. At least I know he’ll give a damn and has no expectations or massive cost.

> No thanks, we don’t need another Falcao and Sanchez. We want players who will come in and fight for the badge, not their wallet.
