# Manchester United: Erik ten Hag requests Youri Tielemans move

**Erik ten Hag has asked [Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) officials to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in January.**

### The Lowdown: Scored on Saturday

Labelled [‘outstanding’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10108967/Leicester-boss-Brendan-Rodgers-calls-Youri-Tielemans-one-Europes-midfielders.html) by his manager Brendan Rodgers, the 25-year-old made his [seventh](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/leistungsdaten/spieler/249565) successive [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) appearance of the season on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder netted his [first goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/leistungsdaten/spieler/249565) of the campaign from the penalty spot against Tottenham, although the Belgian couldn’t prevent a [sixth league defeat in a row](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leicester-city/spielplan/verein/1003) for the Foxes, who were eventually thumped 6-2.

Tielemans was [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-pete-orourke-says-youri-tielemans-would-be-keen-on-old-trafford-move-erik-ten-hag/) with a move to Old Trafford over the summer, and speculation has already returned ahead of the January transfer window.

### The Latest: Ten Hag wants Tielemans

According to one [Spanish outlet](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/3-fichajes-le-pedido-ten-hag-manchester-united-enero-20220916.html), Ten Hag has personally ‘requested’ Tielemans’ services in January.

The report claims that the United manager also wants a right-back and a new forward in the winter transfer window.

### The Verdict: Cut-price move?

The 25-year-old will be into the final six months of his Leicester [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/profil/spieler/249565) in 2023 should his situation remain the same, so you’d expect that a cut-price deal could be on the cards for the [£40.5m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/profil/spieler/249565) Belgian.

Tielemans can play as a defensive, central or attacking [midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/profil/spieler/249565) and has also been described as [‘one of Europe’s top midfielders’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10108967/Leicester-boss-Brendan-Rodgers-calls-Youri-Tielemans-one-Europes-midfielders.html) by Rodgers, so he could be the next important piece in Ten Hag’s Old Trafford jigsaw if United can persuade him to join.
