# Manchester United: Fabrizio Romano makes Pau Torres claim

**A move to the Premier League for [Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-transfer-rumours/) target Pau Torres this summer is a ‘serious possibility’, according to [Fabrizio Romano](https://www.givemesport.com/88023773-man-utd-serious-possibility-55m-star-could-move-to-old-trafford).**

### The Lowdown: United links

Torres, who was hailed as [‘sensational’ and ‘superb’](https://www.marca.com/futbol/seleccion/2021/06/04/60ba8437ca4741102b8b459b.html) by his national team boss Luis Enrique, has been heavily linked with the Red Devils.

[Reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-pau-torres-transfer-gossip-news-2/) in recent weeks have even suggested that United are leading the race to sign the centre-back, who is also of [interest](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10898303/Tottenham-exploring-exchange-deal-sign-Villarreal-defender-Pau-Torres.html) to Chelsea and Tottenham.

The Spaniard has a [£55m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10898303/Tottenham-exploring-exchange-deal-sign-Villarreal-defender-Pau-Torres.html) release clause in his Villarreal contract, and it looks as if a move to England could certainly be on the cards over the coming months.

### The Latest: Romano’s comments

Talking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88023773-man-utd-serious-possibility-55m-star-could-move-to-old-trafford), Romano said that a move to the Premier League for Torres is a ‘serious possibility’ and added that United could soon ‘jump’ onto a transfer.

> “I see Pau Torres playing in the Premier League next season because it’s a serious possibility, but at the moment, it’s still not something advanced between clubs. So I think they are considering together with Erik ten Hag the best option and then they will jump into it.”

### The Verdict: Get it done…

[Marca](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-pau-torres-transfer-update/) claimed last month that Erik ten Hag wants to bring a ball-playing centre-back to Old Trafford, and we believe Torres fits perfectly into those plans.

\[freshpress-poll id=”393955″\]

A marquee centre-back appears to be required ahead of Ten Hag’s first season, especially as United conceded more goals than relegated Burnley in [2021/22](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=418&ha=-1), and the young Spaniard completed [87.5 per cent of his passes in 12 Champions League games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/344259/Show/Pau-Torres) last season.

Torres could be the ideal addition and appears to be at the top of his game with a £45m [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pau-torres/marktwertverlauf/spieler/399776) valuation – the [10th](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pau-torres/marktwertverlauf/spieler/399776) highest valued centre-back in the world. He also has plenty of [experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pau-torres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/399776) at the highest level for club and country, so hopefully, United can get this one over the line.
