# Manchester United: Fans baffled by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer quote on Paul Pogba’s omission

**Plenty of Manchester United fans were left baffled by the reason given by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the omission of Paul Pogba from the matchday squad tonight.**

The France midfielder was not included in the starting XI or even among the substitutes for the trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley. \[[via Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/burnley-vs-man-utd/teams/408173)\]

When speaking to [MUTV](https://mutv.manutd.com/) prior to kick-off, Solskjaer said that “we didn’t feel it was right for him to participate today” after playing in United’s previous two games, with that quote communicated by [@utdxtra](https://twitter.com/utdxtra/status/1210998696294469633) on Twitter.

Pogba’s season has been curtailed by an [ankle injury](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7832939/Paul-Pogba-left-Manchester-United-squad-face-Burnley-despite-featuring-against-Newcastle.html) which kept him out for almost [three months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paul-pogba/leistungsdaten/spieler/122153) before he returned to action in last weekend’s defeat at Watford, when he featured for [26 minutes as a substitute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3219298). The 26-year-old then appeared for [45 minutes off the bench](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3219281) in the Boxing Day win over Newcastle.

With Scott McTominay [missing through injury](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/ole-gunnar-solskajer-confirms-scott-mctominay-injury-on-boxing-day), Nemanja Matic came into the Red Devils’ midfield alongside Fred (as per [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/burnley-vs-man-utd/teams/408173)).

These Manchester United fans took to Twitter to voice their astonishment over Solskjaer’s comments on Pogba being left out for the trip to Burnley:

> But only played 45 mins the last two games. Ole tell us the real truth why is isn’t even on the bench.
