# Manchester United: Loads of fans went crazy for Phil Jones goal vs Tranmere

**Manchester United would have been expecting to brush aside Tranmere Rovers as they did on Sunday afternoon, but most fans won’t have predicted who the first-half scorers would be. Jesse Lingard, Harry Maguire and Phil Jones all managed to register, and fans loved it.**

The man who [Sir Alex Ferguson touted](https://en.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/203772.html) as someone who could be United’s “best ever player” has turned into quite the laughing stock over the past few years, considering [the faces he pulls in games](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/phil-jones-faces-funny-silly-16861208), but the goal gave fans a rare moment to celebrate a positive contribution. Just three minutes into the game [he was already covered in mud](https://www.givemesport.com/1541449-phil-jones-eventul-firsthalf-during-tranmere-vs-man-utd), but then he popped up at the back post to make it 4-0 before half time.

His header looped across goal and into the left of the net, and it’s his first [goal for the club since March 2014](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tranmere-vs-manchester-united-live-17624858). United’s official Twitter account posted a picture of the 27-year-old celebrating, and captioned it “go on, Phil”. Loads of fans were quick to react.
