# Manchester United: Fans defend Anthony Martial after seeing scoring statistic

**Anthony Martial last night took his tally of goals for the season to [double figures](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anthony-martial/leistungsdaten/spieler/182877) as Manchester United recorded [back-to-back Premier League victories](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/spielplan/verein/985/saison_id/2019).**

The 24-year-old forward netted the opening goal of his team’s 2-0 win away to Burnley just before half-time, slotting the ball beyond Nick Pope after a deft pass from Andreas Pereira (as per [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/burnley-vs-man-utd/live/408173)), adding to the [two goals he netted against Newcastle](https://www.skysports.com/football/man-utd-vs-newcastle/408167) on Boxing Day.

The Frenchman’s 10-goal landmark was highlighted by [@utdreport](https://twitter.com/utdreport/status/1211022828889411585) on Twitter with a favourable comparison to his previous two seasons given that there is still half of the current campaign remaining.

Martial has faced criticism from some pundits in the past. Former United defender Gary Neville said on [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/29326/11539543/gary-neville-dissects-anthony-martial-displays-on-monday-night-football) last year that the France international “doesn’t quite understand the game”, while Graeme Souness told Sky Sports a few weeks ago \[[via Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1208701/Man-Utd-news-Marcus-Rashford-Anthony-Martial-Daniel-James-Manchester-United)\] that the 24-year-old was “a bit hit and miss”.
