# Manchester United: Fans drool over ‘best option’ after Ruben Neves speculation

**According to a[report from Goal](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/man-utd-target-moves-for-wolves-duo-jimenez-and-neves/1ksegvcoso8zh1ilmh72nesbsj), Manchester United are targeting Wolves duo Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves, with the club reportedly out to strengthen in the forward and defensive midfield roles ahead of a crucial second half of the campaign – prompting supporters to get excited, particularly over the latter.**

\[freshpress-poll id=”271051″\]

Jimenez, who has since had his links quashed by ‘senior figures’ who derided the [speculation (per the Manchester Evening News)](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-transfer-news-jimenez-17514526), has been at the centre of Wolves’ brilliant campaign so far by scoring [11 goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/108186/Show/Ra%C3%BAl-Jim%C3%A9nez) – but midfielder Neves, according to some supporters, should definitely be their primary focus.

The Portuguese midfielder, who’s bagged[two goals and one assist](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/238244/Show/R%C3%BAben-Neves) in the Premier League this season, could be seen as an excellent partner for the injured Scott McTominay – amassing a superior pass success rate of [79.2%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/238244/Show/R%C3%BAben-Neves) whilst being just one goal shy of the Scotsman’s tally.

In fact, given his five long balls on average per Premier League game (per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison)), perhaps the former Porto man could be a good replacement for Paul Pogba, who averaged 4.7 [last season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97752/History/Paul-Pogba). The Sun recently [suggested](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/10660460/pogba-man-utd-career-over-transfer-exit/) the Frenchman was likely to leave Old Trafford in 2020, so signing a player who can offer the same sort of long, raking passes to release the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James could help provide ammunition.

As a result, supporters have rejoiced over the thought of landing Neves on social media – here’s what they had to say.

> Would love to see Neves joining. Top young DM . We need players there more than attack. But with Ed negotiating I don’t believe anything till an official announcement is made

> Both would be good for Utd. We need Neves more at the moment, he would start every game, quality player with a good free kick as well. Hopefully the start or many to come!!
