# Manchester United: Fans far from impressed about Lingard’s potential new contract

**Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard hasn’t had the best 2019. With [no goal involvements](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/no-man-utd-goals-or-assists-in-2019-why-is-jesse-lingard-still-a-/tsd6hsqibool1n9nunexb914k) since last December, the 26-year-old’s place in the Red Devils starting line-up has started to come into question in recent weeks.**

Lingard was dropped from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-eleven for the trip to Southampton – though did feature as a late substitute in that match – while he missed the club’s last match against Leicester due to illness.

His form this season has been poor, with *WhoScored* giving him an average rating of just [6.41/10](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/109000/History/Jesse-Lingard) so far this season, which makes United’s reported interest in offering him a new contract seem a little bizarre.

Lingard’s current deal is set to [expire in 2021](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/profil/spieler/141660), with United having an option to extend it for a further year. However, according to [reports](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/manchesterunited/man-utd-new-contracts-mason-greenwood-paul-pogba-jesse-lingard-priority-a4240611.html), the Red Devils are now set to offer the England international a new contract, which hasn’t been welcomed by these United fans on Twitter…
