# Manchester United: Fans react after this admission from Ivan Perisic

**Manchester United fans reacted as Ivan Perisic, who is valued at £27 million ([by Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-perisic/profil/spieler/42460)), admitted he was very close to signing for the club.**

The [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40638330) was reporting that club representatives were in Milan to discuss a deal back in the summer of 2017.

In an interview with [The Athletic,](https://theathletic.com/1230701/2019/09/29/it-was-amazing-when-jose-called-me-i-really-wanted-to-join-united-now-i-want-to-stay-at-bayern/) the 30-year-old talked about wanting to link up with former Old Trafford manager Jose Mourinho.

He said: “How close was I to going there (United)? Very close. It was an amazing thing for me when Jose called me. It was difficult to say no to him. In fact, I really, really wanted to join him and play for United.” [(Source: Twitter)](https://twitter.com/utdreport/status/1178295133982351370)

However, circumstances have since seen Perisic join German champions Bayern Munich on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent deal in the summer transfer window [(via Goal)](https://www.goal.com/en/news/perisic-joins-bayern-on-initial-loan-from-inter/11y0vhnz5qqvh1bfyb2vw3np5i).

In stark contrast, Manchester United are dealing with injuries to [Anthony Martial](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-injury-west-ham-16950812) and [Marcus Rashford](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/fantasy-football/marcus-rashford-injury-update-man-utd-arsenal-fantasy-premier-league-tips-637366), leaving Jesse Lingard as the club’s only senior attacker [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/kader/verein/985).

[Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49491677) were also let go in the summer to Internazionale on loan and permanent deals respectively.

Fans couldn’t believe the quotes from Perisic as they took to Twitter.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Old Trafford faithful:

> But people choose to put the blame on the Manager when in fact Ed Woodward can’t even get his managers the players that they want [#WoodwardOut](https://twitter.com/hashtag/WoodwardOut?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [pic.twitter.com/2S4vlU9dhC](https://t.co/2S4vlU9dhC)

> Perisic alpha male. Scored in WC final, balling in Bayern. But we prefer Martial with no backup lool. Bayern had Coman and Gnabry but still signed Perisic and Coutinho smh.

> Scandalous that we pulled the plug on this. What a player and serial winner. Shame the hierarchy thought he was ‘too old’ yet we’re now stuck with the younger much worse option in lingard
