# Manchester United: Fans fume over Steve Bruce managerial links

**Some Manchester United supporters are fuming after the club’s former player Steve Bruce was linked with taking interim charge of the Red Devils.**

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer [left his role](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/12438017/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-sacked-by-manchester-united-after-watford-defeat) as United manager on Sunday morning following the demoralising 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford in the Premier League.

The result leaves the Red Devils a whopping 12 points behind current leaders Chelsea, with their title chances effectively over after just 12 games.

The search for Solskjaer’s successor is now on, with some reports claiming that an interim manager could take charge until the end of the season.

According to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2968984/2021/11/22/who-should-be-the-next-manager-of-manchester-united/), Bruce is keen on taking the role, having been [sacked](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/steve-bruce-sacked-newcastle-manager-b1941750.html) as Newcastle United manager last month. The 60-year-old enjoyed a great playing career with the Red Devils, [making 414 appearances](https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/detail/steve-bruce) and winning three Premier League titles during a glorious period in the 1990s.

However, his [23-year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steve-bruce/stationen/trainer/447) managerial career has [not yielded a single trophy](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steve-bruce/erfolge/trainer/447), while the highest Premier League finish he has achieved as a coach is [10th](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steve-bruce/leistungsdatenLigenNational/trainer/447). He was also [deeply unpopular](https://punditarena.com/football/rudi-kinsella/steve-bruce-newcastle-fans/) on Tyneside, with many Newcsstle supporters lamenting his [conservative tactical approach](https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/football/newcastle-fans-talk-about-manager-steve-bruce/vi-AAPDLvT).
