# Manchester United: Fans gush over latest Bruno Fernandes development

**According to quotes from Sky Sports News reporter [James Cooper via Stretty News](https://strettynews.com/2020/01/17/video-fernandes-to-man-utd-will-happen-claims-sky-sports-reporter/), a deal between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon for star midfielder Bruno Fernandes [‘will happen’](https://strettynews.com/2020/01/17/video-fernandes-to-man-utd-will-happen-claims-sky-sports-reporter/) resulting in fans jumping for joy on social media and remaining hopeful over the news.**

Fernandes, who has long been at the centre of a transfer saga linking him with a move to Old Trafford ([Corriere dello Sport](https://www.corrieredellosport.it/news/calcio/calcio-mercato/2019/07/25-59313011/lazio_per_milinkovic_lotito_e_fermo_a_quota_100/)), has been racking up brilliant numbers from midfield in Portugal over the last few seasons – scoring a total 63 goals and 51 assists from midfield in 134 appearances for Sporting ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bruno-fernandes/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/240306)).

Now, with Fernandes reportedly close to signing for the Red Devils, fans have been rejoicing on social media over the prospect of a prolific central attacking midfielder. In comparison to current midfield man Jesse Lingard, the numbers just don’t compare, with Fernandes eclipsing the Englishman in terms of goals ([8](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/123761/Show/Bruno-Fernandes)), assists ([7](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/123761/Show/Bruno-Fernandes)), key passes per game ([3.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/123761/Show/Bruno-Fernandes)) and shots per game ([3.6](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/123761/Show/Bruno-Fernandes)), as per [WhoScored.com.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/109000/Show/Jesse-Lingard)
