# Manchester United: Fans hail Fred after another ‘outstanding’ midfield display

**Manchester United came back from 1-0 down in style on Boxing Day, eventually [running out 4-1 victors](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tnckGjvVsE&feature=onebox) courtesy of quick fire goals, but these supporters are hailing one man who put in an energetic midfield** **display to help their side over the line.**

Newcastle United’s Matty Longstaff originally gave the visitors an unexpected lead, scoring his second against the Red Devils this season, before goals from Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood [ensured a clinical comeback](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tnckGjvVsE&feature=onebox) – potentially helping to finish the festive period in style.

Martial, who scored a brace in the rout, has [particularly made headlines](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/26/manchester-united-newcastle-premier-league-match-report) – but supporters feel Brazilian midfield chief Fred should also be hailed after [another energetic outing](https://www.unitedinfocus.com/fan-views/manchester-united-fans-react-to-freds-performance-v-newcastle/).

Indeed, as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376278/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Manchester-United-Newcastle-United), he made the most key passes out of anyone during the game (3) and also registered two shots, proving his worth in the middle of the park.

The 26-year-old, along with youngster Scott McTominay, have appeared to form a [solid partnership](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/fred-mctominay-man-utd-news-17383503) in the middle of the park over these last two months – prompting due praise for the former after McTominay [went off injured](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50921066) at half time.

Here’s how supporters hailed the South American on Twitter.
