# Manchester United: Fans look back at Wayne Rooney’s goal against Manchester City

**Plenty of Manchester United fans have been looking back on their [2-1](https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/9391007.stm) win over Manchester City in 2011 in the season that saw them go on to win their [12th Premier League title](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/erfolge/verein/985).**

Wayne Rooney’s spectacular overhead kick was the moment of inspiration that meant the Red Devils took all three points from the crunch clash. David Silva equalised just after the hour mark before Rooney’s spectacular winner. \[[via BBC](https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/9391007.stm)\]

It was voted as the greatest goal in the history of the Premier League in a [Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2012/may/03/wayne-rooney-greatest-goal-premier-league) poll and Rooney went on to become a [legend](https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/detail/wayne-rooney) at Old Trafford, scoring [253](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wayne-rooney/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/3332) goals and providing [146](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wayne-rooney/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/3332) assists in [559](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wayne-rooney/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/3332) appearances for the club.

Many supporters were delighted when looking back at the memories from the end of the Sir Alex Ferguson era and made their feelings clear on social media.
