# Manchester United: Fans praise Mason Greenwood for Spurs performance

**Mason Greenwood made his [first ever Premier League start](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/12/04/man-u-fans-greenwood-starts-v-spurs-fan-reaction/) at home to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham on Wednesday evening, with the Manchester United prodigy impressing in flashes as his side overcame Spurs [2-1 at Old Trafford](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC0zKfnD-ec).**

Marcus Rashford’s brilliant brace, blasting a shot past Paulo Gazzaniga at his near post before scoring a penalty later on, seemed to grab all the headlines – but Greenwood’s first league start for United was a notable one.

The Englishman was inches away from scoring himself, firing a [hopeful drive looking to test Gazzaniga](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC0zKfnD-ec) before the Spurs keeper managed to push the stinging effort round his post.

Greenwood was also one of United’s top performers [according to WhoScored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376065/Live/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Manchester-United-Tottenham), registering a 6.8 rating and outperforming opposition striker Harry Kane.

As a result, Red Devils supporters have flocked to praise Greenwood for his composure on an ultimately huge night for the youngster – especially with a Manchester derby looming at the weekend.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter, with some quick to rank him higher than Antony Martial.

> He is better than Martial

> Greenwood game intelligence is wonderful for someone so young.Looks after the ball so well and often is always in the box sniffing for opportunities to score. Deserves a start at the Manchester derby. Will ole be brave enough to select him?? We will see 🔴⚫️⚪️ [#MUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/MUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
