# Manchester United: Fans rage as Laurie Whitwell sheds new light on Phil Jones

**Manchester United defender Phil Jones has never been the same since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford.**

Jones has been plagued by [constant injury setbacks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jones/verletzungen/spieler/117996) over the years after arriving at the Theatre of Dreams from Blackburn for [£17m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/13754461) back in 2011.

However, according to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1922323/2020/07/13/ornstein-manchester-city-premier-league-chelsea-onana/)‘s Laurie Whitwell, Jones has recently undergone surgery to clear a lingering problem with his knee. The surgery has been a success and Man United are confident that he can turn his career around and finally live up to [expectations](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/13754461).

[David Moyes](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/manchester-united/manchester-united-fans-delighted-by-west-hams-decision-as-moyes-set-sights-on-red-devils-duo/), who managed Jones during his time at Old Trafford, is keen to sign him, although that hinges on whether or not West Ham stay in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old is [open to a move](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-offer-phil-jones-premier-21693802) regardless, as he wants to be playing regular football and finds himself below the likes of [Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/leistungsdaten/verein/985) in the pecking order. He has shockingly only managed to play two games in [the Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jones/profil/spieler/117996) all season.

Unsurprisingly, many United fans slammed the news on social media, with some branding him a “broken man” and suggesting that he is “robbing the club blind” in light of his horrendous [injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jones/verletzungen/spieler/117996). Meanwhile, one fan urged the board to “get him out.”
