# Manchester United: Fans react as Red Devils linked with Kieran Trippier

**Many Manchester United fans were left incensed by the club’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier.**

Well-respected journalist David Ornstein of [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2280676/2020/12/26/rice-origi-saliba-messi-eriksen-alaba-january-transfer/?source=emp_shared_article) responded to a fan when asked about the 30-year-old, to which he said that there is truth in the whispers of a Red Devils move, but a swoop in January would be difficult due to the player’s recent FA ban.

Trippier, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, was recently banned from all football-related activities for 10 weeks by the [FA](https://www.thefa.com/news/2020/dec/22/kieran-trippier-suspended-and-fined-221220) over a betting charge relating to his move from the North London club in 2019.

Before the Englishman was suspended, he has averaged a match rating of 7.28 from 13 La Liga starts, with a pass success rate of 81.6% and four assists to his name ([Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/83078/Show/Kieran-Trippier)).

With this in mind, supporters were not impressed with the club’s ambition, with some suggesting that this move should have been carried out several years ago.
