# Manchester United: Fans react to De Gea penning a new deal

**Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has penned a new deal with the club, committing his services to the Red Devils for the next four years, via [BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49719629).**

The Spain international’s future was up in air earlier this year amid yet more interest from [Real Madrid](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utds-david-de-gea-14144896?fbclid=IwAR2zz7UdwBLHCIF_I-CPDbVfbpe-3vW392Nm6GiqqhbwhMOXjmclM9YlX-w), and with his previous deal expiring at the end of the current campaign, a move away next summer looked highly probable.

That now looks extremely unlikely with United tying the 28-year-old down to a new four-year deal, which will see him remain at Old Trafford until 2023, as any club wishing to prize him away from the north west of England would have to pay a huge transfer fee – likely over £100m in today’s inflated market – something highlighted by [Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/sites/grahamruthven/2019/08/10/inflated-transfer-market-is-giving-premier-league-kids-a-chance/#5731540a5dc6) last month.

While some may think that De Gea has played his best football in a Manchester United jersey, something which former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer [highlighted last week](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/david-de-gea-been-average-3306796), the vast majority of United fans still believe that he is one of the best in the business and are absolutely delighted that he’s signed a new contract at the club.
