# Manchester United: Fans react to Odion Ighalo transfer update

**Manchester United are hoping to extend Odion Ighalo’s stay at the Theatre of Dreams but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could still lose him when the season resumes, according to [ESPN](https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/4093705/man-utd-could-lose-ighaloworking-on-loan-extension-sources).**

Ighalo’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June, and, although United are reluctant to sign him permanently, Ed Woodward is willing to offer Shanghai Shenhua a new loan offer to keep him for when the season finally resumes.

Ever since he arrived at Old Trafford from China in January on a short-term deal, the Nigerian has quickly settled into life at the Red Devils, scoring 4 goals in only 8 appearances for Solskjaer’s side so far ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odion-ighalo/profil/spieler/62121)).

The 30-year-old was initially called in to provide injury cover for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, but he has more than stepped up to the plate, netting 2 goals in 3 games in the Europa League, taking 2.7 shots on average and registering 1.7 dribbles per game ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/31376/Show/Odion-Ighalo)). He is valued at £4.68m via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odion-ighalo/profil/spieler/62121).

Unsurprisingly, loads of United fans reacted to the transfer update online, with one fan exclaiming “good riddance,” and another pleading with the club to “sack Ed.”

> Not signing a striker at all shouldn’t be a thing, but at the same time, if we do sign one, it’ll have to be an older player who has a few decent years left in them, it’ll allow Greenwood to develop and not demotivate him

> sign him up, the flexibility is required to push on to win stuff, martial hasn’t been able to have a rest until ighalo was brought in

> Good find a way to keep him for the end of the season then re assess the situation after. Club is finally acting smart.

> Nothing personal to ighalo, but this is like going out for lobster and settling for a big mac surely, he’s a top lad great attitude but we need a top striker among our up and coming forwards, this is what’s needed..
