# Manchester United: Fans react to Red Devils interest in Faitout Maouassa

**Lots of Manchester United fans have been discussing the news that the Red Devils are monitoring Faitout Maouassa, according to [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/) via [Sports Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-united-among-clubs-looking-rennes-star-suggestion-bid-bid-exceeding-e10-12m-get-deal-done/).**

Maouassa has put in a string of impressive performances for Stade Rennais FC on the left flank this season, helping Julien Stephan’s side reach third in Ligue 1 before football ground to a premature halt as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the versatile youngster as a [solid defensive option](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8245883/Manchester-United-Newcastle-tracking-progress-versatile-Rennes-left-Faitout-Maouassa.html), and United face stiff competition from Newcastle United, as both Premier League teams are keeping an eye on his progress ahead of a potential transfer battle in the summer.

The 21-year-old has made 23 appearances in the French top flight this campaign, scoring 3 goals, providing 1 assist, averaging 2.2 tackles per game, making 1 interception, and registering 1.9 clearances on average (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/296232/Show/Faitout-Maouassa)). His market value is estimated at £7.2m via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/faitout-maouassa/profil/spieler/357072), but the report claims Rennes will consider an offer worth more than [€12m](https://www.lequipe.fr/).

If Ed Woodward manages to sign Maouassa in the upcoming transfer window, the defender will have to contend with the likes of Luke Shaw and United academy graduate Brandon Williams for a place in Solskjaer’s starting lineup next season.

Predictably, plenty of supporters are delighted by the latest “astute” link, with one fan labelling the Frenchman as “underrated.”

> This guy is literally following very closely to alphonso davies and so underrated, if he comes then he would have pretty mich impact. I like our LB options but if we have to cash shaw and sign him for the 10m, then it's definitely a win

> I don’t like the way he runs. Slightly hunched. Other than that, a very talented young LB. I’d defo take him.

> Looks good imo has a good tackle and can dribble with pace. Defo a good option given his price tag. Noticed him while watching camavinga in Rennais games this season

> This is a good transfer for €12m, hopefully he turns out great for us and by 2021 summer we sell Shaw.
