# Manchester United: Fans shocked by Sean Longstaff and Emre Can transfer links

**Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on New Year’s Day will have been a wake-up call for many United fans. Indeed, their victories against Manchester City and Tottenham may have papered over the cracks, but there are obvious problems afoot and fans aren’t pleased with who the club are being linked with.**

[ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4025380/manchester-united-eye-emre-can-sean-longstaff-to-ease-injury-crisis-sources) have reported that the Red Devils are eyeing up Sean Longstaff and Emre Can as options to add to their midfield this month. The former has played[14 games for Newcastle](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/111212/Show/Emre-Can) this term, but [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/111212/Show/Emre-Can) have rated him just 6.31/10 for his contributions. Whereas 25-year-old Emre Can has made [just two starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/111212/Show/Emre-Can) for Juventus this season.

In fact, when looking at a comparison on [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison), Scott McTominay actually beats them both in terms of aerial duels won per game, as well as tackles won and interceptions made. Elsewhere, Fred makes more key passes per game as well as takes more shots over the same period, so it’s not as if either would improve the ranks when looking at those numbers.

That’s hardly exciting reading for Man United fans, and many supporters expressed their views on Twitter. A United news aggregator [@utdreport](https://twitter.com/utdreport) on Twitter relayed the report to their followers and the response was predictably negative.

> This is what he means by he wants the right ones he could rush into the market and buy players like Can who are on the market because they’re on the bench but why would we want Juve bench players?
