# Manchester United: Fans slam Angel Gomes after Solskjaer gives update amid interest from Chelsea

**Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he has no idea if [Angel Gomes](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073) will sign a new deal at Old Trafford.**

Gomes, who has been linked with [Chelsea](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073) in recent months, is out of contract next week.

The Red Devils have been unable to reach an agreement with his representatives so far, as they were ‘[underwhelmed](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073)‘ by the new offer on the table.

Despite insisting a deal is “not too far away” last week, [Solskjaer](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/transfer-news/angel-gomes-manchester-united-contract-18471344) told a press conference “I can’t update on that” ahead of the Premier League clash with Sheffield United.

Last month, the Premier League announced clubs will be allowed to offer extensions to players with contracts expiring in [June](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4094552/premier-league-confirms-players-can-extend-contracts-until-end-of-season).

However Man United are only interested in tying him down to [a long-term deal](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/angel-gomes-man-united-latest-18471073), and the transfer saga has rumbled on for a number of months, amid interest from Barcelona.

Even though [Barca](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-premier-league/story/4094549/lloris-15000-guard-dog-fifa-awards-postponed-man-united-calm-as-chelsea-barca-eye-gomes) were genuinely keen to sign Gomes, they had no intentions of offering him first team football, which disappointed the teenager.

[\[freshpress-poll id=”306032″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22306032%22])

The 19-year-old, who turns 20 in August, has only made six appearances for Solskjaer so far, and he will become a free agent when his contract runs out at the end of [the month](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angel-gomes/profil/spieler/392770). His current market value is estimated at £3m via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angel-gomes/profil/spieler/392770).

Whether or not he stays or goes probably won’t bother the Norwegian too much, as he has so many attacking options to choose from, including Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Odion Ighalo.

Indeed, Gomes has even failed to supplant [Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ole-gunnar-solskjaer/eingesetzteSpieler/trainer/7286/plus/0?saison_id=&verein_id=985&liga=&wettbewerb_id=), and his lack of game time makes it hard for him to hold any leverage.

Given his young age, he is still largely unproven, and Ed Woodward should not give in to his demands, although the Red Devils might regret sanctioning a move in the future, as ended up happening with [Gerard Pique](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gerard-pique/profil/spieler/18944).

Naturally, many United fans slammed Gomes’ “ridiculous” transfer update, with one fan urging the board to “let him go,” and another branding him “clueless.”

Scroll through some of the scathing reactions so far…

> Just let him go… Players like that always hurts the team. See Pogba although good when committed he doesn't have the passion for the team like James and McTominay shows

> Ridiculous. He should see the amount of opportunities players like Williams and Greenwood have got in the past 12 months and jump at the opportunity to sign a new deal

> This guy should leave if he wants to or better still sign a deal, he isn’t the next Ronaldo or Rooney. If he can’t sign then he should go where he feels would be better for him.
