# Manchester United: Fans slam Angel Gomes as his contract officially expires amid interest from Chelsea

**Angel Gomes is no longer a Manchester United player.**

After months of speculation, the 19-year-old is now a free agent after his contract expired on [Tuesday](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8474583/Why-Angel-Gomes-leave-Manchester-United-Chelsea-huge-prospect.html), and he is now able to look elsewhere.

Gomes became Man United’s youngest debutant since [1953](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/angel-gomes-manchester-united-transfer-news-next-club-chelsea-epl-a9591671.html) when he replaced Wayne Rooney in a [2-0 win](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angel-gomes/debuets/spieler/392770) over Crystal Palace.

The teenager, who turns 20 in August, has not featured since the Premier League restart and decided to leave Old Trafford as a result. [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1900014/2020/0/) reports Gomes was concerned by a lack of game time which was a key factor in his decision to depart the Theatre of Dreams.

He has only played 36 minutes of [senior football](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/angel-gomes-manchester-united-transfer-news-next-club-chelsea-epl-a9591671.html) all season and only time will tell if he will be able to live up to his full potential.

Jorge Mendes has worked with his dad [Gil](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8474583/Why-Angel-Gomes-leave-Manchester-United-Chelsea-huge-prospect.html) in the past, as he represents the former Red Devils winger Nani, who is also the youngster’s godfather. Meanwhile, super-agent Pini Zahavi is reportedly involved in talks with [Chelsea](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8474583/Why-Angel-Gomes-leave-Manchester-United-Chelsea-huge-prospect.html).

Naturally, many United fans slammed the teen’s transfer update on social media, with a couple of supporters tweeting “hallelujah” and “good riddance.” One fan even called him an “average player” as he is still [largely unproven](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/338497/Show/Angel-Gomes).

> Good riddance. Doesn’t want to be here. Clearly has an ego thinking he deserves to play without ever putting in a decent shift and earning his spot. Exactly the type of player we don’t need at the club

> Good riddance! Overly hyped and demands way too much.. All he had to do was look at mctominay, greenwood, williams etc to see OGS will play youth and the money will follow..
