# Manchester United: Plenty of fans were annoyed to see Luke Shaw starting vs Liverpool

**Manchester United could have fallen to pieces in the first half of their game against Liverpool if it wasn’t for a [tight offside decision and a controversial foul](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11912928/liverpool-defeat-united-to-go-16-points-clear) from Virgil van Dijk. However, they managed to keep themselves in the game until the 93rd minute, and that will have surprised many United fans considering their starting 11 reaction.**

Luke Shaw took the brunt of the disappointment when it was revealed both him and fellow left-back Brandon Williams would be starting the game. [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118244/Show/Luke-Shaw) have rated him just 6.65/10 for his performances so far this season for United in the Premier League, and that’s when he’s in his regular position, never mind the left centre-back role he played against Liverpool.

United’s official Twitter account posted the starting line-up on their twitter account, and it was there where many fans were quick to show how annoyed they were that he was starting and [starting in a position he had not played in this season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118244/Show/Luke-Shaw). Many replied to give their thoughts.
