# Manchester United finally accept defeat in transfer chase

[![hummels.jpg](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Mats-Hummels-Borussia-Dortmund_2949507-500x375.jpg)](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/mats-hummels-061.jpeg)The Football Transfer is awash with Manchester United fans tonight but they look set to leave disappointed despite our incredible Tuesday night beer deals.\
\
That is because according to [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/man-united-blow-hummels-move-table-after-defender-named-borussia-dortmund-captain), the Red Devils’ pursuit of German international defender Mats Hummels is now over after he was named Borussia Dortmund’s new club captain.\
\
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer long as new manager Louis van Gaal looks to replace the departed Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.\
\
It is the second time the Manchester club have missed out this week having seen their other top summer target Thomas Vermaelen complete a move to Barcelona.\
\
And Arsenal themselves were sounding out a possible move for the World Cup winning international.\
\
But German football source Jonathan Harding said: “Mats Hummels is a very comfortable man and he’s just been made the club captain at Borussia Dortmund,” he told Kick Off.\
\
“I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere this summer, and that is that. Why would the club name him their captain and then sell him in the same window?”

### **Manchester United fans. Are you disappointed that you were unable to coax Hummels to your club or is there better options available this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.**
