# Manchester United: Odion Ighalo pay cut comments have Red Devils fans gushing over loan striker’s attitude

**Speaking to Manchester United’s [official website](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/odion-ighalo-first-interview-with-mutv-as-man-utd-player) in his first interview with the club, loan striker Odion Ighalo has revealed that he took a pay cut to sign for the Red Devils on the last day of the January transfer window – resulting in many United supporters singing his praises.**

Ighalo, who [signed on loan](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51383589) from Shanghai Shenhua in a last minute deadline day deal, apparently told his agent to make the move happen, irrespective of the cost to his personal salary. The Nigerian was signed as a temporary replacement for the [injured](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/expert-predicts-marcus-rashford-harry-21355442) Marcus Rashford, ideally allowing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to play a natural striker and move Anthony Martial back into the wide positions.

Compared to Rashford, during his best Premier League season at Watford in 2015/2016, Ighalo failed to match the Englishman’s current statistics of [3.4](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300299/Show/Marcus-Rashford) shots and [two completed dribbles](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300299/Show/Marcus-Rashford) per game, as per [WhoScored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300299/Show/Marcus-Rashford). However, the 30-year-old was able to match a similar goal return of [15 in 36 starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/31376/History/Odion-Ighalo) – with United supporters hoping he can replicate that form.
