# Manchester United: Red Devils line up Illan Meslier bid

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are lining up a bid for Leeds United goalkeeper [Illan Meslier](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/illan-meslier/), according to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21434957/man-utd-illan-meslier-leeds-transfer-david-de-gea/).**

### The Lowdown: Impressive Old Trafford display

Erik ten Hag recently watched Meslier twice in the space of four days in back-to-back [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) fixtures against the Whites earlier this month.

The French shot-stopper impressed in the first meeting at Old Trafford, comfortably outperforming David de Gea in a 2-2 draw, as per [SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/manchester-united-leeds-united/JsK). The 22-year-old made five saves and completed 11 long balls, and it looks as if he is on the club’s radar as a result.

### The Verdict: One to watch

Meslier is at the top of his game with a career-high €22m [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/illan-meslier/profil/spieler/542586) valuation, and has been labelled as a ‘keeper with ‘[so much quality](https://tbrfootball.com/so-much-quality-aaronson-has-lauded-illan-meslier-after-leeds-win/)’ by Brenden Aaronson.

He has made [353](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/saves) saves in the Premier League and already ranks in the all-time [top 50](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/saves) in that regard, so a move could be a shrewd one, especially if Leeds suffer relegation to the Championship.

Hugo Lloris has [tipped](https://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-news/shows-all-his-potential-lloris-tips-pl-star-as-one-of-his-potential-future-successors/) Meslier to become France’s first-choice ‘keeper in the future, and with De Gea now 32, he could also replace the United legend at Old Trafford, making this one to watch.
