# Manchester United: Red Devils interested in Carney Chukwuemeka

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are interested in a move for Aston Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/1149979/carney-chukwuemeka-aston-villa-man-city-man-united-barcelona-transfer/) report.**

### The Lowdown: Midfielders wanted

The Red Devils have made two summer signings so far in left-back [Tyrell Malacia](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/tyrell-malacia-completes-move-to-manchester-united) and free agent Christian Eriksen, and it certainly looks as if more midfielders are high on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist.

After Eriksen’s move to Old Trafford on a three-year deal was [confirmed](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/Transfer-news-Man-Utd-complete-signing-of-Christian-Eriksen?utm_campaign=ManUtd&utm_medium=post&utm_source=twitter), United remain on the hunt for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, having apparently [agreed](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1547518992499212288) on a fee with the Catalan club.

It could well be a busy few weeks off the pitch ahead of the new season, and it seems as if United hold an interest in another midfielder in Chukwuemeka.

### The Latest: Chukwuemeka’s future

[TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/1149979/carney-chukwuemeka-aston-villa-man-city-man-united-barcelona-transfer/) provided an update regarding Chukwuemeka’s future on Thursday. They claim that Villa have placed a £20m price tag on the 18-year-old, who is attracting interest from United, Barcelona, Manchester City and Newcastle.

Villa have left Chukwuemeka out of their [pre-season tour](https://www.90min.com/posts/carney-chukwuemeka-left-out-of-aston-villa-pre-season-tour) to Australia due to his situation as he enters the final [12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carney-chukwuemeka/profil/spieler/659459) of his Villa Park deal.

### The Verdict: Barcelona hold an advantage?

It looks as if United will need to pay Villa’s full £20m asking price this summer to sign the [‘special’ (via Jacek Kulig)](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout/status/1430263931700928520) Chukwuemeka. If they don’t and the midfielder remains in the Midlands, Barcelona could be in pole position for a January swoop.

Cross border rules mean that the Spanish giants could take advantage of Chukwuemeka’s contract situation, whereas United wouldn’t be able to offer any pre-contract agreement.

The England youth international appears to be a star of the future with a number of European giants keen, so United chiefs may have some thinking to do if they seriously want to secure his services.
